Admissions
Century College of Art and Business (CCAB) is a private post-secondary institution
registered in the province of British Columbia, Canada (Registration #3378). Where
there are specific admission requirements into the college, they are set at a level that provides
a reasonable chance of academic success at CCAB. Students are strongly
advised to review individual program pages to verify the admission requirements
of each program offered at CCAB.
Immigration Requirements
At the point of application for admission, an applicant must submit relevant
documents to satisfy the Admissions Office of CCAB that he/she is one of
the following:
A Canadian citizen
A permanent resident in Canada
An international student holding a valid Study Permit issued by Citizenship
and Immigration Canada (CIC)
A foreign worker holding a valid Work Permit which allows the applicant
to pursue studies during his/her stay in Canada.
Document proof must be submitted along with the Application Form. For
international students, if any of the terms and conditions on the Study Permit
has changed, it is the applicant’s responsibility to renew the Study Permit
to ensure a valid one is in place prior to the program commencement.
Admissions Requirements
- An applicant must have completed at minimum the Grade 12 level of
BC secondary school education, or equivalent.
- An applicant must demonstrate an English proficiency required to
undertake rigorous essay writing practices.
- An applicant must be 19 years or older to be considered an individual
applicant. If he/she is below 19, a parent/guardian will be required
to co-sign the Application Form.
- A conditional admission will be granted to an applicant who has not
met the stipulated requirements. The instructors will be invited
to assess the ability of this applicant during the first two weeks,
and recommend if he/she will be allowed to continue. A maximum
of two semesters will be allowed for students who enroll under conditional
admission status.
English Language Requirements
All the courses offered at CCAB are conducted in English. An applicant
must demonstrate an acceptable level of competency in the use of English
to participate in classroom instruction and to complete written assignments.
An applicant must have satisfied one of the following conditions:
- Has completed at least BC English 12 or equivalent;
- Submit a TOEFL score with 500 or above (paper-based) / 173 or above
(computer-based);
- Has taken at least two semesters of post-secondary courses with English
as a medium of instruction;
- Has been a full-time student in Canada for at least three years
If arriving directly from overseas, the student is required to write an in-house
English Placement Test. Depending on the score of the test, the student
may be required to enroll in the College Preparation Program at CCAB.
A personal interview by a program coordinator or an instructor may be required
to ascertain an applicant’s English proficiency before he/she is formally
admitted.
Previous Studies (Credit Transfer)
Courses completed successfully at other recognized institutions with Grade
“C” or better will be assessed for transfer credit on a course-by-course
basis. They include credits earned via prior learning assessment (PLA),
challenge credit, or the equivalent at another recognized post-secondary
institution. Students applying for transfer credit may be asked to
provide a copy of the course outlines for the courses intended for transfer.
Under normal circumstances, up to 50% of the program of study is allowed
for transfer of credits. We will do our best to see that you receive
a fair assessment, but we cannot guarantee that the courses
you choose will receive full credit.
